Children can exhibit many behaviors in school. They can appear restless, uneasy, tired, and distracted. However, behavior is communication. Many children need adults to meet them where they are, so they can regulate and feel safe before deciding on solutions to the problem.  It is important to teach and practice coping strategies, to remain as calm as possible, and develop a safe and predictable environment. This will allow children to establish trust and feel a sense of belonging.

As an educator, one of my goals is to teach children these strategies so they can be successful inside and outside of the classroom.

Below are ways I have incorporated social and emotional development into everyday activities, transitions, and my learning space.
