learning environment
Children can exhibit many behaviors in school. They can appear restless, uneasy, tired, and distracted. However, behavior is communication for children. Many children need adults to meet them where they are, so they can regulate and feel safe before coming up with solutions to the problem. It's important to teach strategies to remain as calm as possible in order to think logically, MODEL these strategies, and to support children when things to do get hard. This will allow them to establish trust and feel a sense of belonging. Our goal is to teach children how to use these strategies outside of the classroom and take these important life skills with them for future use.
Below are ways I have incorportated social and emotional development into everyday activities, transitions, and my learning space.
